What is Sulky

Sulky is The Future Of Form. An integrated Race Form & Result analysis tool that critically analyses individual horse performances and is to be used as a comparative metric for race form.

What makes Sulky different to current form analysis available to the public

Rather than focusing on basic statistics (eg horse finishing position last 5 starts), Sulky incorporates individual horse analysis with metrics including:
  • Actual performance form
  • Individual sectional form and lead time for all quarters
  • Recording of how wide on a track the horse is for the lead time and all quarters
  • Conversion of sectionals to peg line sectionals by adjusting for extra distance travelled
  • National Sulky Rating for performances
  • Driver, trainer and gear change notifications
  • Notifications if horse has not performed for more than 30 days, and if so, how many days since their last start.
  • Gate Speed Analysis of each horse
  • Swooper Analysis of each horse
  • Behaviour Analysis of each horse
Sulky also incorporates:
  • Mapping of all Australian tracks for calculations
  • Race results showing individual horse sectionals, horse mid-race positions and infographics
  • A user friendly software

What is Actual Form

Actual Form is a horse's form prior to detailed calculations. Eg:
  • How many starts at particular track
  • Career starts
  • Horse finishing positions at race distance
  • Prize Money
  • Best race winning mile rate
  • Win %
  • Place %

What are Basic Sectionals

Basic Sectionals are the individual horse times in a race rather than the overall race time. This includes horse individual lead time, quarters and mile rate.

What are Peg line Sectionals

Peg line sectionals are the conversion of basic horse sectionals to peg line sectionals by adjusting for extra distance travelled. Eg, what time the horse would have run if it was on the fence the whole race.

What is Sulky Sectional Form. How is it calculated

Metrics for calculating the Sulky Sectional form incorporates:
  • Recording of sectionals for Lead Time and each Quarter
    • Distance behind leader
    • How wide on track
  • Precise mapping of each Australian track
  • Parameters such as length of average horse and gig. Average width of gig.
  • Conversion of sectionals to pegs using:
    • Basic Sectionals
    • Track Information
  • Using peg sectionals for power rating calculations
  • Sectional information in form and result

What is Integrated Form

  • Actual Form
  • Sectional Form
  • Notification Changes for:
    • Drivers
    • Trainers
    • Gear Changes
    • Days since last start (30 days of more)
  • National Sulky Rating
  • Stewards Comment Interpretation
    • Bad Behaviour
    • Bad Luck
    • Without Cover
    • Gear Problem
    • Physical Concern

What is the National Sulky Rating

The National Sulky Rating is a complex calculation and is to be utilised as a comparative metric for horse performance. The National Sulky Rating:
  • Is a normalised rating across all tracks in Australia, based on a 1000m track.
  • Utilises peg sectionals to give an indicative mile performance on track over one mile.
  • Uses average lead times and quarter benchmark information for each track to rate performance.
  • The National Sulky Rating makes adjustment for slowly or fast run races.
  • The National Sulky Rating makes adjustments for all race distances.
  • The National Sulky Rating formula has been refined and modified over a period of time to be realistic and consistent.

What are the differences between Avg.B3, RVR, B5 (Pos) and WRB Sulky Ratings

  • Avg.B3: Average best 3 National Sulky Ratings in the horses previous 5 starts.
  • RVR: Most recent valid National Sulky Rating in the horses previous 5 starts. If a horse has had issues with behaviour, vet or luck... it is NOT considered as a valid rating for this metric.
  • B5 (Pos): Best National Sulky Rating in the horses last 5 starts and the position that they finished in, in that race.
  • WRB: Weighted Recent Best 3. This is the best indicator of the horses most current performance.

What is the Sulky Race Form Analyser

The Sulky Race Form Analyser compares horses performing in each race based on their last 5 race starts. The Form Analyser includes a breakdown of National Sulky Rating, Swooper Analysis, Gate Speed Analysis and Behaviour Analysis for EACH horse yet presents it in a Comparative Manner for ALL horses in a given race.

What is the Swooper Analysis and how is it calculated

The Swooper Analysis is part of the Sulky Form Analyser. It calculates and compares each horses' current performances in the last 1200m, 800m and 400m of each race. These ratings are part of the National Sulky Rating and therefore are a normalised rating across all tracks in Australia using track benchmarks and individual horse peg line sectionals.

What is the Gate Speed Analysis and how is it calculated

The Gate Speed Analysis is part of the Sulky Form Analyser. It calculates and compares each horses' current gate speed performances in their previous 5 starts. Horses gate speed is a complex calculation that incorporates the horses actual time performance in comparison to the average lead time of each Australian track.

What are Stewards reports and how do I interpret them

On SulkyApp, all stewards' reports have been condensed and grouped into categories to assist with understanding if the horses' previous performances were affected by the horse itself or race circumstances. This differentiation can make a difference to the horses following performances and can indicate potential improvement. The grouped categories are:
  • Bad Behaviour
  • Bad Luck
  • Without Cover
  • Gear Problem
  • Physical Concern

Is there a demo for using Sulky

Yes, non – paying users have access to form and results for the first two races in each meeting. Please click HERE for access.

Why are sectionals different at each track

Horse sectionals can differ from track to track due to track size, corners, racing surface and weather conditions.

Can you use Sulky on any device including mobile and desktops

Yes, Sulky has been designed to run on all devices, from smartphones (in both portrait and landscape mode), tablets, laptops and desktops.

Is SulkyApp available on Google Play and Apple's App Store

No. However, you are able to install SulkyApp on your device upon your first visit to the sulky.app website. Once installed, SulkyApp will then appear (on your homescreen) and behave the same as a native application. SulkyApp is a PWA (Progressive Web Application).

How do you calculate sectionals without a stopwatch

All sectionals are calculated through mathematical formulas with multiple difference metrics. Please refer to Question "What is Sulky Sectional Form. How is it calculated" for more information.

Why is the horse wide position important

The horse wide position on the track is significant, as the wider a horse is on a track the more distance they need to cover.

Do you have a social media presence

Yes. We can be found on these popular social media platforms

I did not receive the verification email

Here are some of the most common reasons that prevent you from receiving the verification email in your inbox and how to fix them

You should receive a verification email within 20 minutes after signing up for SulkyAPP or after requesting to verify an additional email address. If you're not seeing it in your inbox, check out these suggestions:

  • Refresh you web browser - Occasionally you may need to manually refresh your browser to check for new emails in your inbox.
  • Check your Spam or Junk folder - Your ISP (Bigpond et al) or corporate domain may be configured to deliver commercial mail to your Spam or Junk folder by default.
  • Check for typos - Check the spelling of the email address and request another verification email to be sent to the corrected address if there was a typo.
  • Add SulkyAPP to your safelist - SulkyAPP averages a very low block rate of around 3%, but, if you haven't received any SulkyAPP emails, it's possible that the email may have bounced or been blocked. Try adding "@sulky.app" to your safe sender list, then request another verification email to be sent.
  • Avoid using role, group, or alias addresses - Some role addresses can be verified, but many can't. Because multiple people may have access to a role email address, it's best to use an individual email address for the contact and billing address in your account.
  • Verify a different email address - You can have more than one verified email address in your account. When all else fails, try using another email address.

If you've tried the steps above and still haven't received a verification email, please contact our Support Team.

How do I cancel my subscription
